Learning and Fun at the Park!

Our trip to Jefferson County Park on Monday, January 24 was fantastic!  The weather cooperated, and the kids had a great day.  In the scent tracking activity the students had to follow a scent trail left by "prey".  It was quite funny to watch the "predators" down on their hands and knees sniffing the scent trail.

The students' favorite part of the day was building shelters that could keep them warm if they were lost in the woods in the winter.  They did a great job of collecting and stacking materials.  I've uploaded the pictures of the shelters.

A big thank you to Therese for another educational and entertaining day at the park!

Jefferson County Park Trip

On Monday, January 24 we will take another all day trip to Jefferson County Park.  We will be outside all day, so students NEED boots and snow pants.  Park Naturalist Therese has planned a fun scent tracking activity.  We will also learn about shelters animals use to stay warm in the winter.  We'll eat at the park, so students need to bring a lunch.  We are looking forward to another great day of learning and fun at Jefferson County Park!

Congratulations to Alex for being honored with the second quarter character award!  Alex was recognized as being a respectful member of our classroom and school.  His award read:

"Alex is a very respectful young man.  He uses good manners at all times with his classmates and with adults in the building.  Alex can be heard saying, “Ladies first,” while in line or at the door.  He is a good friend and a helpful member of our class."

Science Test on Wednesday!

I'm sitting at my desk watching it snow, wondering if we'll have our first snow day of the school year tomorrow... let's hope not!

The students brought home the Science textbook and two review pages tonight.  The test over Chapter 5 "Water" will be on Wednesday.  There are a lot of important vocabulary terms in this chapter.  Please help your child study these words and the water cycle process.  The test will be very difficult without some time spent studying.

Thanks for your help from home!
